blog promotion free

You will find that there are many people in our industry, especially with blogs, but many of them are struggling to get comment and traffic. There are main reasons for this:

He did not take the necessary steps to properly set up his blog with an initial blog promotion strategy

They do not blog continuously.

I am going to address these issues one by one and provide you with a systematic approach, by which you will know step by step to promote your blog.

I am going to make an assumption here that if you are trying to promote a blog, you have a self-hosted WordPress blog. Your site is hosted on a domain that you own, which means that you pay for hosting through a hosting provider such as HostGator or Dreamhost. It is not that Drupal or Jumla is evil; I am just not familiar with those formats and want to remain in my field of knowledge. Self-hosted WordPress blogs are very standard for our industry for their ease of use, flexibility, and detail, so if you are not using one, I suggest that as soon as you are practical.

The blog promotion strategy will be divided into two phases, as well as two articles. This is a one-time event that happens before you start blogging regularly to ensure that you have the necessary plugins installed and that you have taken the appropriate measures to ensure that your blog is promoted is ready.

The followup article will cover Phase , an on-going blog promotion strategy. This is a checklist that you will complete each time you write a new blog post to ensure exposure, traffic, opt-in, comments, shares and decent search engine rankings. I am not going too deep into SEO in this article, but I plan to write another article, my top recommendations for optimizing my blog posts for search engine visibility. With that said, let's go to step 1.

Promoting Your Blog - Step 1: Initial Promotion Strategy

One of your first actions should be to set your ping list by copying the list of ping services provided by WordPress. You can find a good list to get started on wordpress.org. Once you copy that list, you paste it into the 'Writing' section of your WordPress blog settings. Go to Settings> Writing on your dashboard and then paste the list in the box titled 'Update Services' and that's it. Now every time you publish a new blog post, each of these services will be notified and you will start seeing traffic to your blog.

You want people who enjoy your content to return to your website, and FeedBurner gives them a way to subscribe to your blog and keep them informed whenever you publish new content. This gives you more traffic if they had to remember to check their blog. To set up FeedBurner simply go to FeedBurner and set up an account. You must submit the URL of your feed, which in most cases, will be yourdomain.com/feed. There are other configuration options to play with, but by submitting to FeedBurner, you are much more prepared for your readers to subscribe to your new content.

Install a good SEO plugin

There are many free and paid plugins that help you ensure that every blog post you publish has certain features that make it more attractive to search engines. I am currently using WordPress SEO by Yoast, which is a free plugin. Another good option is SEO Presser, which is a paid option but provides more functionality and automation. These plugins help ensure your on-page SEO.

Submit your RSS feed and blog to directories

The purpose of submitting your RSS feed and blog to directories is similar to maintaining a ping list. You submit your RSS feed and URL to inform various directories that are present in your blog and to keep them updated with your latest posts. These directories are browsed by people who are interested in the type of content you offer. The important part of this process is to make sure that you submit in the appropriate category to match your content with your audience. Blog and RSS available to submit your site and your feed with Google's quick search.

Register for social bookmark accounts

Social bookmarking is similar to the bookmark you make in your internet browser, but instead you do it publicly on a website. This creates pages that you make public for those who share your interests on that site. As a result, people with whom you have common interests may be notified as to your new blog post as you bookmark them. This brings traffic to your site because they share your interests and will probably be interested in what you are reading or bookmarking. A tip for social bookmarking is not just to bookmark your own publications so as not to seem self-serving. Be genuine in the articles you bookmark. You should bookmark articles from various sources, not just your own. It is also important to reach out and network with people on social sites, so that your underlying audience grows and you get more traffic. Some of the most popular social bookmarking sites are StumbleUp, Digg, Reddit, Tasty, Digo and HubPages. Social bookmarking sites are slowly overtaking Facebook and Twitter as go to sharing sites, although they are still useful for getting traffic.

Sign up for a social bookmarking automation tool

There are tools that automate submission to many social bookmarking sites that you are posting content to. One of the best is Onlywire. Using the only cut at the required time to login to each social bookmarking site and manually post your bookmarks. After setting up your accounts on various social bookmarking sites, you can update all your bookmarks a lot at the push of a button. The free version and the only version are the paid version. The main difference is that the free version is overshadowed by the number of monthly submissions. It is a good idea to start with the free version until you get accustomed to the platform and you have all your accounts set up. Once you start promoting your blog regularly, you may want to upgrade to the paid version.

Get an autoresponder service and set up a blog broadcast

One of the main ways to get repeated traffic to your blog would be to send a blog broadcast to your email subscribers. There are some main options for autoresponder services.I personally use Aweber, but it suits my needs. They are very much equivalent in terms of features at each price point. Once you have selected a service, you will need to place an opt-in form on your website that you will use to capture your customers' email addresses (or names and emails). Most people will need some sort of novelty to give you their name and email. The prospect needs to have something unique for the prospect, like audio mp3, or ebook or video, which gives them valuable information. You can also provide a tutorial that teaches them what problem they are facing. Once they join your list and give you their email address, you can send them a blog broadcast through their autoresponder service. You integrate this by connecting your autoresponder service to your blog's RSS feed; So it starts listening for new blog posts. Once you are notified that you have written a new post, it can send the post to your list automatically. A better approach, and the way I use it, is to queue to send email, but I have to actually release the email before sending it to my list. This gives me the ability to customize emails a bit more so that they read better, and personalize them more for my customers. I do not recommend setting a blog broadcast to fully automate.

Blog promotion - the rest of it…

We have established the initial setup actions that you will use to ensure that your blog is set to communicate with the sites and services you need to publish your posts. In another article we will look at an ongoing blog promotion strategy, which is your routine of steps to take after publishing each of your blog posts. A sound on-going blog promotion strategy gets you maximum exposure with your target audience. A good strategy will help you to increase your traffic, get quality links and increase your reputation and authority with search engines.

Happy Blogging!
